SC transfers JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea to Delhi High Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday declined to hear the bail petition of Kanhaiya Kumar, leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Student Union, who was arrested on sedition charges.

Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested last week on sedition charge for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans.

It, however, said the petitioner could move the appropriate Court.

Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested last week on sedition charges for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans at an event held on the university campus in support of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

The Court on Wednesday sent him to jail till March 2. While he was taken to Court for this hearing, Mr. Kumar was beaten up by lawyers who had assembled in the premises. He was hit a second time inside the Court trialroom, waiting for his hearing to begin.

The Court also ordered that special arrangements be made for the security of Kanhaiya Kumar, his lawyers and journalists.
