Massive fire breaks out at Make in India Week event, programme called off

Mumbai(ANI): A massive fire broke out on stage during the cultural programme at Maharashtra Night at the Make in India event in Mumbai.

The fire has been doused off completely and the situation is under control.

The fire broke out almost 10 minutes after Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis delivered his speech at the event, during a lavani performance. The fire was triggered beneath the stage when around 80-100 dancers were performing.

When the fire broke out, people thought it was part of the performance but it quickly spread across the stage. Emergency protocol was called immediately. Around 16 fire tenders put out the fire in 10 minutes. No casualties have been reported yet.

Along with 16 fire tenders 6 ambulances and 4 jumbo tankers have been called. Out of the four tankers, two have been already used to put out the fire. The fire is now under control.

Reportedly, at the time of the fire around 5000 VIPs were sitting within 50 metres from the stage. The VIPs comprised of Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray, Katrina Kaif, Aamir Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur and other Cabinet members.Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray, Katrina Kaif, Aamir Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur and other Cabinet members. The ‘Maharashtra Night’ programme was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai earlier in the evening.

All roads to Chowpatty have been closed and traffic diverted to J Mehta Marg following the fire. CM Fadnavis has still not left the venue and is continuously monitoring the situation and ensuring that everyone is safe.

The programme has been called off.

14 Fire engines,10 Water Tankers, and all Sr. Fire Officers are on site. Fire now totally under control. Program called off.

CM Fadnavis said, “A comprehensive disaster management and mitigation plan was prepared for this plan was prepared 4 days ago. What has happened is really shocking.”

A fire safety audit was conducted prior to program &all SOPs were followed. Number of fire fighting equipments were kept stationed at venue.

The reason of the fire is still unknown and Fadnavis tweeted that inquiry into the incidence will be conducted. Amruta Fadnavis, wife of CM said, “What has happened is really shocking. It happened right in front of me, however the fire brigade moved in very quickly to put out the fire and also evacuate the people in attendance.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Devendra Fadnavis and extended all support from the Government of India.

Chief fire officer said they will investigate to know the cause of fire. “We will submit the report in a day or two,” he added.

“We had more enforcement than regular but due to wind and involvement of fire crackers, fire intensified,” he further added.
