Pathankot: At least four terrorists launched an attack on the Indian Air Force’s base in Pathankot, Punjab, on Saturday morning, say media reports.
The security of the installation was breached and two terrorists were killed in the resulting gunbattle, say reports.
The gunfire started at around 3:30 am. An official car was used as a decoy to start the attack.
As of now, fierce battle still rages inside the base, though the remaining terrorists have been contained in a non-operational area of the facility.
The National Security Guard (NSG) has been called in to conduct the operations.

The attack might be linked to the abduction of a Superintendent of Police (SP) in Pathankot on Friday night, say reports.
A high alert was sounded in Punjab on Friday after 4-5 suspected Pakistani terrorists in army uniform abducted and thrashed a Superintendent of Police and his two associates before dumping them some distance away and speeding away in his vehicle last night.
After a while, the SP Salwinder Singh was pushed out of the vehicle and his two companions were driven away by the men.
Later, the men pushed one person out of the vehicle near Pathankot and slit the throat of the third man, who has been identified as Rajesh Kumar. He was dropped near Damtal hills on the Punjab-Himachal border after he pretended to be dead.
The place of the incident was just about 15 kms from the border with Pakistan.
Two security personnel are dead, says media reports. All terrorists have been killed now.
The Pathankot encounter has ended and the army is clearing up the area, looking for terrorists.

It is unclear whether there were only four terrorists or more. 4 have been killed, but the battle is still on.
Based on developments on Friday, an alert was sounded accordingly. 2 army columns, Special Forces and NSG were already present in the area
Local brigade commander of the army is coordinating operations, army UAVs and IAF also involved in operation.

The number of terrorists who entered the base is considered to be at least 6 now.

According to incoming reports, one security personnel has been killed in the battle.
Reports have emerged that Jaish-e-Mohammad may have carried out the attack.
NSA Ajit Doval held a high level meeting on Friday night after abduction of the SP, and all plans were already in place. The forces were alerted about a possible attack yesterday itself.
The attack took place at MIG 29, helicopter air bases, say reports.
The terrorists, who are in uniform, have occupied a building near the air base.
Helicopters have been dispatched to the area as well, said DIG (Border) Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh to ANI.
