GUWAHATI: In another successful operation against insurgency, Army has gunned down a hardcore NDFB terrorist of the Songbijit faction in Kokrajhar district of BTAD in Assam on Tuesday. Based on specific intelligence the army launched a joint operation with Kokrajhar Police in the wee hours of Tuesday and gunned down Nerswn Brahma alias Naidaw.

Army stated when the search party reached the suspected area; the terrorist opened fire and in the ensuing firefight the militant sustained bullet injuries which led to his death.
Nerswn Brahma was a 40th batch trained cadre of NDFB (S). He was involved in the violence of Kokrajhar in 2012 stated the Army. One AK 47, two magazines, 44 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 11 fired cases, two mobile phones, Rs 11000 in cash and some incriminating documents were recovered from the terrorist.
Army in close coordination with Assam Police and other para military forces have been carrying out specific intelligence based operations against the terror groups active in the area.
The Assam government on Tuesday has stated that at present eight militant groups are active in Assam including NDFB and ULFA. Official reports say a total of 12001 militants of different extremist groups were arrested in the state since the year 2006. On other hand, a total of 3990 militants of different outfit groups had laid down arms during the period.
