Abdul Rashid ink attack: BJP defends attack while Jammu & Kashmir CM Sayeed condemns it

New Delhi(ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday defended the ink attack on Jammu and Kashmir MLA Abdul Rashid by the Vishnu Gupta-led Hindu Sena at the Press Club of India in New Delhi, saying that he was a victim of his own doing.

“India is a democratic country where anyone can do anything. If Abdul Rashid can a give beef party, then he should also realise that anything can happen with him also,? BJP MLA Gagan Bhagat told ANI.

“The incident is not right. However, Abdul Rashid is a victim of his own doing,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Monday condemned the ink attack, saying the “spate in unpleasant incidents” is “most disturbing”.

Attack on Eng. Rashid is unacceptable & condemned in the strongest possible terms. This climate of intolerance & violence is very worrying.

In a statement, Sayeed said, “in a vibrant democracy like India, we need to have courage to respect dissent and provide space to different points of view.” He added tha, “the spate in unpleasant incidents such as this is most disturbing.”

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the attack on Rashid and said the “climate of intolerance and violence is very worrying”.

The ink attack took place when Abdul Rashid had called a press conference in the national capital. The Hindu Sena has claimed responsibility for the attack alleging that Rashid has insulted cow, which is considered sacred to Hindus.

Rashid was recently beaten up by BJP MLAs inside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for allegedly hosting a beef party at the MLA hotel.
