Supreme Court directs Maharashtra Assembly not to take coercive step against Shobhaa De

New Delhi(web team): In a major relief to eminent author and socialite Shobhaa De, SC has directed Maharashtra Assembly not to take any coercive step against her.

Shobhaa De

Shobhaa De attracted the ire of Maharashtra government in April this year for criticising decision of forcing multiplex owners to screen Marathi movies in prime time.

De had tweeted, “No more popcorn at multiplexes in Mumbai? Dahi misal and vada pav only. To go better with the Marathi movies at prime time.” A privilege motion notice was served to her by Maha asssembly. De then moved to Supreme Court which stayed the order. However the Maharasthra Assembly then said they will not take cognizance of the Supreme Court stay order on the Shobhaa De issue.

Maharashtra legislature principal secretary Anant Kalse had said they will not accept any notice from courts and the state government will decide the stand to be taken on the issue.
