Sania Mirza, Martina Hingis continue golden run, win Ghangzhou Open title

The Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis pair beat the Chinese pair of Shilin Xu-Xiaodi You 6-3, 6-1 to win the Guangzhou Open title on Saturday, according to Zee Media.

This is their 6th title of the year. The pair has won two Grand Slams this year (Wimbledon and US Open).

The next pitstop is the WTA Finals. The No 1 ranked pair in the world will want to finish the year with the WTA Finals title and keep their success rolling.

Sania Mirza scripted history two weeks ago by clinching her second Grand Slam of the year after she won the women’s doubles US Open title with Swiss partner Martina Hingis in New York.

The Mirza-Hingis pair defeated Casey Dellacqua of Australia and Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-3.

This is Sania’s 2nd Grand Slam title with Martina Hingis.

Earlier this month, Mirza and Hingis saw off the challenge of Taipei girls Yung-Jan Chan and Hao-Ching Chan 7-6(5) 6-1.

Hingis had also won the mixed doubles title with Leander Paes on Saturday. The fourth seeded Indo-Swiss pair, edged past unseeded Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey 6-4 3-6 10-7 in a tricky final to win their third Major title together this season.

In April, Sania became the first Indian to be ranked world No 1 in WTA’s doubles rankings and then in July she won her first women’s doubles Grand Slam.
