Odisha, February 4, Abhijit Saha: Zee News Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) has launched new Oriya channel Zee Kalinga yesterday.
The channel replaces the Telegu channel Zee 24 Ghantalu.This Telegu channel discontinued its operation in November 2013 as Zee News found Andhra Pradesh as highly competitive market. This year ZMCL decided to move to Odisha since Zee Kalinga was preparing from last six months and has been waiting for is a licence approved from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). They just needed conversion of their news licence from one channel to another the approval for which came in January.
This channel will be a Terrestrial Entertainment Network (TEN) with both news and non-news content. This channel will include news bulletins, chat shows, fiction shows, reality shows, etc., in its content. Some shows like Abhinetri by Vidisha Kraft, Katha ta Etiki by Shri Ganesh Telefilms, Asha Ra Akash by Urmi Communications, Maa Raan Micha Kahuni by Asian Shopping Club, Jajema by Herald and Mr. & Miss Kalinga will also be featured known from sources. The channel will also feature three dubbed shows Ramayana, Bikram Beetal and Buddha.
Around 100 employees have been employed for this channel till now. Mr Amitava Bhattacharya is the EVP, Arja Patnaik the Programming Head, Aryabhatta Dash is in Marketing Manager and Satya Prakash Nayak is the Resident Editor.
The unique tagline for the channel is “Mu Odia, Mo Odisha”.
The main office of this channel will be in Bhubaneswar and other bureau units in Sambalpore, Balasore and Behrampore. Initiallly it will be a free to air channel till March after that to be converted to a paid channel.
At present this channel is present in most local cables and on DTH available on Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV.
