Kondotti, 23 March, Sreeparvathy K.: Kerala top the lists of highest number of devotees applying for Hajj, with 55,776 applications submitted to State Hajj Committee. This is the first time the number of Hajj applicants from a state crossing 50,000.
The number of applicants from the State was 43,916 last year and 49,424 in 2012. Of the 9895 applicants in reserve category, about 4000 have to wait it out to get the permission. The 2195 applicants above 70 years of age are assured to get the visa. And of the7700 fourth time applicants, only those selected by lucky draw will be able to go to Hajj.
EC Muhammed, Assistant Secretary of the Hajj Committee said that the data entry of the applications will be over by Monday and the lucky draw will be done on April 26.
