Kochi, 19 March, Sreeparvathy K.: Kerala High Court ordered for the further inquiry into the Abhaya case, the single bench ordered CBI to probe into the role of investigating officials in manipulating the evidence. The verdict was given by Justice NK Balakrishnan while considering the petition filed by Jomon Puthenpurackal for further probe into the Sr. Abhaya murder case.
In his petition Jomon demanded that CBI should probe into the role of former Crime Branch SP KT Michael, former Kottayam Sub Divisional Officer GK Kishore, Chemical examiner R Geetha, Assistant Chemical examiner M Chitra, V Thyagarajan, RDO Office Clerk KN Muraleedharan, Senior Superintend Aliyamma, cook in the hostel, Achamma, Thresiamma and Sr. Abhaya’s roommate Sr. Sherley. Jomon claimed that investigation was not carried out on the injuries on Sr. Abhaya’s body.
The CBI had stated that Crime Branch had tampered with the evidences of the crime as per the order of Crime Branch SP KT Michael and concluded the case as an attempted suicide. CBI claimed that Sr. Abhaya was murdered, but wanted to close down the case due to lack of evidences. Local Police and the Crime Branch had initially investigated the case and later transferred the case to CBI in 1993 and filed charge sheet in 2009.
The body of 19 year old nun, Sr. Abhaya was found in the well of St. Pius Tenth convent on March 27, 1992. The main accused in the case were Fr. Thomas Kottur, Fr. Jose Puthrukkayil and Sr. Sephi.
