Thiruvananthapuram, 18 March, Sreeparvathy K.: Kerala Government gave an affidavit supporting the quarries functioning in Kerala. The government is prepared to gave the affidavit before Green Tribunal which also states to take away the need to seek permission needed from Ministry of Environment and Forests for quarrying in area under 5 hectare.
The government had given the deficiency of construction materials as the reason for such a measure. The government had stated that 123 villages falling under Environment Sensitive Area as per the Kasturi Rangan report are not allowed to have any quarrying operations. But other areas under 5 hectare land will not need prior permission and there is no mistake in the commerce department’s order to extend quarrying licences for a year, states the Government affidavit.
