Wayanad, 17 March, Sreeparvathy K.: Minister for Forest, Environment, Transport, Sports and Cinema, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan announced Forest Vigilance investigation into wild fire in Wayanad under Additional Principal Chief Conservator. It is feared that the fire is artificially made as some people with vested interests and local politicians have attacked forest offices and officials on the issues of Kasturi Rangan report and night travel restrictions.

There are also reports of increasing wild animal poaching and forest fire in the forest. The primary reports suggest that over 1000 acre of land was in flames; the fire spreading over Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Muthanga, Tholetty and North Wayanad forest division. Many wild animals, reptiles and trees over the 20 km forest area covering Thundakapp, Chakkini, Kottiyur, Kaaramad, Panavailli, Sarvani in Thirunelli panchayath under Tholpetti wild life sanctuary and Begur range under North Wayanad Forest Division were destroyed by fire.
Environmentalists who tried to take the photographs of the wild fire were attacked. Fire force Departments from Mananthavadi, Kalpetta, Batheri and Kannur arrived to put out the fire and control the situation.
