Maoist presence in Attappadi: Thunderbolt begins search

Agali, 17 March, Sreeparvathy K.: ‘Thunderbolt’ team of the Kerala Police is conducting search operations in the Attappadi forest for the Maoists. The search is conducted on the grounds of the suspicion of the presence of Maoists in the Attapadi forest and nearby tribal areas. Police and Forests officials decided to search ethnic tribal areas and silent valley forest for armed militants.

Eight militants including four women collected food grains from tribal households and made enquiry into the visit of District Collector and ministers. Police officials also fear the attacks and disruptions of the electoral battle.

The Police intend to encourage and protect tribal people and hunt down Maoists. Forest officials from Attappadi and Bhavani Forest Range and Police officials from Agali station are also participating in the search.
