MUMBAI: Ever since Kareena Kapoor Khan has given a nod to star in her ex-flame…
Kareena Kapoor Khan’s latest release, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, was a blockbuster.
Immediately after its release, she started shooting for R Balki’s next, which also stars Arjun Kapoor. But Kareena doesn’t mind the jam-packed schedule, as long as she is getting to work with “new directors”. “He’s got a brilliant mind. I really wanted to work with directors I haven’t associated with till now, so when he approached me, I instantly decided to do the film. I am stepping away from my regular kinds of roles. I think Balki sets a milieu that’s a lot more real. He is an actor’s director,” says Kareena.
While her next looks at marriage in a quirky way (Arjun plays a house husband in it), Kareena says everyone looks at the school differently. “It’s different for different people. A lot is said about marriage and responsibility, but it all lies in how you look at it. If you are happy and content with whatever you do — personally or at work — it comes out in the best form. I look at it as the coming together of like-minded people who want to spend their lives together,” says the actor, who is happily married to Saif Ali Khan.
While both Kareena and Saif come from film backgrounds, Bollywood hasn’t exactly been a cakewalk them. Kareena says that while the popular notion is that it’s easier for star kids to gain a foothold in the industry, it’s far from the truth. “Everybody’s journey is different. It (coming from a film family) really doesn’t matter… you could be anybody’s child, but your journey is your own. You have your own struggles, and you make your own choices. It obviously makes for an interesting read when someone, who doesn’t come from a film family struggles and makes it big.

Even though Kareena Kapoor Khan belongs to a family of stars, she doesn’t feel Bollywood is a bed of roses for star kids. “Saif’s mother (Sharmila Tagore) was the greatest superstar of her time, but it took him 20 years to get accepted. The same was the case with me. My films weren’t doing well at all at one point. And I had worked with everybody, from Sooraj Barjatya to Subhash Ghai (film-makers). Their films were not the biggest hits of my career. For people to say that, since you come from a film family, it is easy… there’s nothing in it. It’s so untrue,” she says.
The actor released a book a couple of years ago. It revolved around her style and fashion choices. Ask her if she would ever want to write an autobiography, and Kareena says that she doesn’t want to give away details about her personal life. “I am a very private person. I am even apprehensive about doing interviews. Not many know that about me. People think that I love to talk about my work and life, but that’s untrue,” says Kareena, adding, “That’s the reason I’m not even on social media. My life is my own; it’s my space. So, about writing a book, at least not now… I might do it when I am 60 or 70.”
Talking about her philosophy of life, Kareena says, “For me, it has always been about following my heart. Sometimes, it doesn’t work, and sometimes it does. But, I’ve never thought about what’s going to happen. It’s always been about the moment. That’s how I would advise people to be.”
