Odisha, February 2, Abhijit Saha: Now Odisha will witness the existence of Air Conditioned (AC) city Bus service in at least three cities Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri. A total of 12 numbers of AC buses will run on three routes of Odisha initially. These routes include Bhubaneswar to Cuttack, Bhubaneswar to Puri and Airport to Nandankanan. All possible preparations are going on to get these AC buses ready to get engaged by last week of February in the routes of the cities said by sources.
The buses are procured by the state government financially assisted by the centre under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Dream Team Sahara (DTS) a local Kanpur based transport agency is supplying these buses. DTS is already running 125 Non AC city buses in Odisha. The chairman of DTS Mr. Nishikanta Mohapatra said that they had earlier signed an agreement with Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Service Limited (BPTSL) for running the non AC city buses and now will sign a supplementary agreement between BPTSL and DTS to incorporate 12 new Air Conditioned buses in the existing contract agreement.
The city bus operator of DTS said that the fare of the AC buses will be fixed by the Fare Fixation Committee of Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD).
All of these 12 AC buses will be stocked with Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and also with GPS navigation system. There will be 35 seats in the bus with low height to help the senior citizens and physically handicapped people during travel.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is geared up to start the 12 new AC city buses soon by the last week of February. These AC buses will endow the general people with relief to tackle with the summer season that is coming nearby.
