PM Modi’s ‘maun vrat’ to ‘resign now, debate later’: 7 quotes from Sonia Gandhi’s speech at Congress meet

New Delhi: Launching a scathing atack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence on Lalit Modi row and Vyapam scam, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday said the “Mann Ki Baat” man appears to have retreated to “Maun Vrat” whenever there is a “scam” involving his colleagues.

Addressing Congress’ Parliamentary party meet in the national capital, Sonia declared Congress will continue to protest to prevent Parliament from functioning till the government delivers the resignation of Vasundhara Raje, Sushma Swaraj and Shivraj Chouhan, involved in Vyapam scam.

Here are Sonia’s top quotes from her speech during the meeting.

  • There is a mountain of incontrovertible evidence in public domain for PM to require resignations of EAM and the two CMs.

  • PM is conspicuous by his “deafening silence on the blatant transgressions” by his External Affairs Minister and two Chief Ministers.

  • Yesterday’s agitators in both the Houses have suddenly become today’s champions of debate and discussion

  • We are raising very important issue with strong evidence, but government is unwilling to take action in this regard.

  • BJP is the author of ‘resign now, debate later’ principle which it had used in at least five occasions during UPA rule. We are only following it.

  • The ‘Mann Ki Baat’ man (PM Modi) appears to retreat into a ‘Maun Vrat’ whenever there is a scandal involving his colleagues.

  • The PM has been very free with his promises yet he seems totally incapable of delivering on them.
