Failed Extortion Attempt: Villagers Thrashed UALA Rebels

Shillong, February 2, R M Warjri: In an attempt to extort money from a villager, two cadres belonging to a newly  floated rebel outfit United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) in Garo Hils faced the wrath of the entire village and thrashed before being handed over to the police. The incident took place at about 5 pm on Saturday at Darengre village under Dobasipara Beat House in West Garo Hills.


The duo identified as Sanjay Ch Sangma and Bijoy Ch Sangma went to the house of one Isak N Marak to demand money from him. Marak raised an alarm causing villagers to rush to his rescue. The mob subsequently thrashed the rebels.

Injured Sanjay and Bijoy belonging to the Norok faction of the outfit had to be admitted to Tura Civil Hospital, they said.

From the rebels the police recovered one 9 mm pistol, one 7.65 pistol, two magazines and three live rounds and the interrogation is going on them.
