Lucknow(PTI): BJP MLA Sangeet Som, of the Sardhana assembly constituency in Meerut district, is the latest to be accused of submitting fake degree documents in his affidavit to the Election Commission.
A resident of Noida, Devendra Mukhiya has lodged a written complaint along with supporting documents to the PMO and the District Magistrate of Meerut, saying, “According to the records available at KK Jain Inter College, Som failed in High School itself, but while submitting his affidavit during nominations, he declared himself a graduate.” Mukhiya has also attached a letter written by the principle of KK Jain Inter College, Khatauli, that states that Sangeet Som applied for a Transfer Certificate in 1993-94 after he failed his high school exam. There are no educational records available for Som after that and Mukhiya has accused him of presenting wrong facts and a fake degree.
However, Som has denied the allegations and said that his image is being tarnished and accused the complainant of having links with the Samajwadi Party.
This is not the first time that Som has been in the eye of a storm. He was arrested for his alleged involvement in inciting communal violence in Muzaffarnagar in 2013. However, he was released on bail and the NDA government had later provided him with the Z+ security, despite the opposition’s objections.
Meanwhile, the BJP is yet to sort out the fake degree controversies surrounding Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani and Minister of State in the same department Ram Shankar Katheria.
