New Delhi(PTI): The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday informed the Delhi High Court that IFS officer Devyani Khobragade hid from them the fact that her daughters had US passports.
According to reports, the ministry told the Delhi High Court that Devyani had willfully violated grovernment rules and provisions of various acts that bar holding of US passport and diplomatic passport for her daughters. MEA also reportedly questioned Khobragade’s intergrity and trust-worthiness.
Devyani Khobragade, 39, who was India’s deputy consul-general in New York, was arrested in December 2014 on charges of visa fraud and lying to US authorities about what she paid her housekeeper.
Khobragade’s arrest and strip-search provoked protests in India and dealt a serious blow to US efforts to strengthen ties.
