Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan: Working magic with different directors

Salman’s latest release Bajrangi Bhaijaan has kept the cash registers ringing, which you may say is nothing new. But what is new is that the film has been hailed by everyone from the audience to the critics. Before the film’s release, everybody expected the film to be another Salman Khan fare, where he fights, sings, dances and does his usual dialoguebaazi. However, the viewers were in for a surprise, and so were the critics. The film is completely unlike a Salman film.

Salman with Kabir Khan

It has a lot to do with Kabir Khan, the director. A sensible director, he knows what he wants from his actor and his not afraid to extract it from him. Salman has worked with very few noted directors. His film’s success has always relied on him. The directors had little to add. In BB, there’s no dishoom, dishoom, nor is the actor mouthing any clever dialogue. After a long time, Salman has broken away from the larger-than-life characters he is usually associated with and done a movie that has him playing a sweet simpleton. Undoubtedly, a huge huge risk for the superstar as his fans aren’t used to seeing him in that mould and there was a possibility of them not liking him in this avatar. The film, however, has turned out to be a big hit with even the harshest of critics warming up to it.

Akshay with Neeraj Pandey

In recent times, it has been noticed that actors who stick to a particular type of films and their favourite directors, always work when they move away from the tried-and-tested formula. Akshay Kumar did that in Special 26 with Neeraj Pandey. The film, a con caper, had Akshay displaying his brain power rather than brawn power, which he is known for.

It had none of his stylish stunts, dances or loud humour. Even his look was different — sober and buttoned-up and his acting restrained. Yet, his fans lapped it up and the critics too gave him a thumbs-up. The actor continued his tryst with hatke movies recently with Baby — again with the same director — that was in a different zone.

SRK with Rahul Dholakia

The teaser of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film Raees, directed by Rahul Dholakia, grabs your attention for more reasons than one. First of all, the actor dons a look that is completely unlike any he has sported so far. With surma in his eyes, a taabiz around his neck and a beard, SRK hatke avatar takes you completely by surprise. What’s more he is not seen in the usual romantic mode that he is known for. Here he means business with the line ‘baniye ka dimaag, miyanbhai ki daring”. You can bet his fans will lap it up.
