Bhopal(PTI): Indian Youth Congress activists today protested against the death of 49 people allegedly linked to the Vyapam scam and demanded the Prime Minister to break his silence on the issue.
Scores of IYC workers took out a funeral procession, of the deceased in the scam, from IYC office to Jantar Mantar and demanded resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and adequate compensation to the family of the dead.
“We are taking out this march with four major demands, which include – statement by PM on Vyapam scam, resignation of Shivraj Singh Chouhan from the CM’s post; government job to one member each from the families of the deceased and compensation of at least Rs 1 crore each to the families of all 49 deceased related to Vyapam,” IYC President Amarinder Singh Raja Brar said.
“PM Narendra Modi uses social media platforms like Twitter so frequently but I fail to understand as to why his attitude is so indifferent toward a very serious issue like Vyapam scam. He must break his silence on the issue,” he added.
Meanwhile, the IYC leader also condemned the statement of Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayawargiya who had stoked a controversy today by terming the Vyapam scam as a “small incident”.
“The death of 49 people isn’t a normal incident. It may be a small incident for Vijayawargiya but not for us,” Raja Brar said, adding more than 300 people linked to the scam were still missing.
The Opposition has alleged that 49 persons linked to the Vyapam scam, a massive admission and recruitment scam, have died under mysterious circumstances, a charge refuted by the state government.
