Uddhav Thackeray slams BJP for discussing how to contest elections alone

Mumbai(PTI): Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday slammed BJP government in the state, saying it has no time to address drought-like situation in Maharashtra, but is busy discussing how to contest polls alone.

“Who is talking about drought? Nobody. However, a few (BJP) are busy discussing about contesting polls alone. Some others are waiting for this alliance government to fall,” the Sena chief said, without naming the BJP, and also making a veiled reference to NCP chief Sharad Pawar. Thackeray was speaking at a Ganesh Mandal Committee function after a recent High Court ruling against Ganesh pandals on roads.

Despite being in the BJP-led government, the Sena has been criticising BJP on various issues, either directly or through ‘Saamna’, the party’s daily mouthpiece. He also said that his party workers would always remain in the forefront to fight dengue or leptospirosis cases and refused to blame the Sena-led Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the city’s health problems. “Our BMC workers visit every dirty place after receiving complaints about dengue. However, they cannot reach every household, but you can,” he told Sena workers.

He assured Ganesh mandals that the Sena would stand firmly behind them. “This is a celebration by the Hindus and it will take place as usual. Why they do not appreciate social initiatives by these organisations like running computer centres, yoga centres, libraries and reading rooms? Therefore, the party is with Ganesh mandals,” he said.

Last week, Uddhav had even led a delegation of Ganesh mandals to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting his intervention after the High Court’s order.
