After Odisha Surakhya Sena, BJP Yuva Morcha has filed another case against the singers..

Sona Mahapatra and Rituraj Mohanty’s re-rendition of the timeless Sambalpuri cult song ‘Rangabati’ has got them mired in controversies. And they don’t seem to die down. A day after Odisha Surakhya Sena registered a case against the singers Sona Mohapatra and Rituraj Mohanty at the capital police station, another complaint has been filed by BJP Yuva Morcha at Sambalpur Town Police Station.

The cases have been filed accusing the singers of distorting the original sound track which was sung by Jitendriya Haripal and Krishna Patel. The singers have also been accused of warping the state anthem, ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ on the show.

The original “Rangabati’ was first aired by All India Radio studio in Sambalpur in mid-seventies. After it became hugely popular, a music company, Indreco, bought the rights and released it around 1978.
The song then reached cult status with lakhs of records sold and singers Haripal and Patel awarded honourary doctorates by a university.

One Response to Cases against Bollywood Singer Sona Mohapatra and Rituraj Mohanty by BJP Yuva Morcha

  1. Rangabati is Odisha’s most popular folk song from the Sambalpur region and the composition has been known to the local’s since time immemorial. The song reached a larger public and became a popular household song after it was recorded for the first time in the mid 70’s in the voices of Jitendra Haripal & Krishna Patel with additional lyrics by Mitrabhanu Guintia & re-arranged by Prabhudatta Pradhan. On this platform it is re-interpreted as a beautiful bi-lingual conversation of Sambalpuri & Tamil. The eternal adoration of the beloved in Rangabati is connected to the love for one’s roots & mother in the Tamil Rap & finally celebrates the love for one’s motherland in Bande Utkal Janini . Sona Mohapatra sings an ode to her home state Odisha in her milestone 10th year as a music artiste & is joined by the rapper duo Tony & Rajesh from Dharavi, Mumbai & the latest musical star from the state of Odisha , the supremely talented Rituraj Mohanty.
