Kolkata(dna): Stirring a controversy, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek has publicly threatened to ‘gouge out the eyes’ of those who dares to challenge the ruling party.
Abhishek, a first time parliamentarian, made the remarks while addressing a meeting of Trinamool Congress on Monday.
“Most political parties have fallen on the feet of Narendra Modi, but TMC did not. TMC MPs showed we won’t spare anyone who tries to exploit people of West Bengal.”
He further added, “Until Mamata Banerjee is here, if anyone looks at West Bengal with evil intentions, we will gouge their eyes out and throw them on the road, if they raise their hands, we’ll cut their arms off.”
27-year-old Abhishek heads the party’s youth wing.
In January this year, Abhishek was slapped by a youth at a rally at Chandipur in East Midnapore district.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed Abhishek Banerjee over his statement.
“I think Abhishek Banerjee has been making such highly provoking speeches earlier also. There should be a case registered against him. He should not indulge in any such speeches being a Member of Parliament. Threatening the people to vote for Mamata shows that she does not have believe on the work she has done and that the BJP has emerged has a competition to TMC,” said BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao.
BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said, “We condemn this type of political language being used by a youth leader. We can throw them out through democracy.”
