Mumbai boy Armaan Gala emerged supreme in the Under-18 category of the annual Weiz International open Chess Championships which concluded at Weiz in Austria on Sunday.
Gala, a 10th standard student of Oberoi International School participated in the Group B open category of the championships.
Carrying an ELO rating of 1551, Gala won against Rumpf-dormer Solveigh and Kocsis Victor of Austria and Hungary respectively. He finished with a tally of 2.5 points out of possible five games.
“The idea of playing in Europe was to play against tough opponents and I try and learn from them. This tournament was one such learning experience for me. I shall try and do well in more such tournaments besides the National rating events in India,” said Gala.
