Reliance Communications to invest up to Rs 2,000 crore this fiscal

Mumbai(PTI): Telecom operator Reliance Communications will invest about Rs 1,500-2,000 crore in the current fiscal to increase its data business, a top official has said.

“We will invest in the range of Rs 1,500-Rs 2,000 crore this fiscal. Our focus area would largely be to increase data revenue,” RCom Chief Executive Officer for Consumer Business Gurdeep Singh told PTI.

The company on Friday reported a 46% jump in its net profit at Rs 228 crore mainly due to increased revenue from wireless Internet business and rise in post paid customers.

RCom has already raised US $300 million early this month for capital expenditure.

Contribution of non-voice segment, largely dominated by data, rose to 25.2% of the revenue during Q4-FY15, up from 23.5% during the same period a year ago.

RCom’s average data usage per subscriber is the highest in the industry at 893 MB, Singh said.

As per RCom data, its total data or Internet customer base has increased by 26.2% year-on-year to 33.7 million, including 17.4 million 3G customers.
