Patna(PTI): Under attack on the merger of Janata Parivar constituents despite uncertainty over its flag and symbol, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said all formalities related to the formation of the new political outfit will be completed by its president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
“Mulayam Singh Yadav has been made the president of new political party (post-merger of Janata Parivar members) and he will complete all formalities,” he told reporters in reply to questions.
The opposition BJP had mocked the Janata Parivar members for hastily announcing the merger without taking a decision on its flag and symbol.
Six offshoots of ‘Janata Parivar’ on April 15 merged together to form a new party to take on a resurgent BJP, especially in the context of the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar later this year.
The ruling parties in UP and Bihar, Samajwadi Party and JD(U), RJD, INLD, JD(S) and Samajwadi Janata Party formally decided to merge at a meeting on April 15 at the residence of SP President Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was chosen the head of the new outfit. He was also vested with the power to decide on issues like flag and symbol of the party.
The merger came almost two decades after the then Janata Dal disintegrated in the 90s.
