New Delhi(PTI): Congress on Monday urged its all breakaway factions to return to its fold to build an effective opposition against the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.
Taking a cue from six political parties coming together to form the Janata Parivar, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh asked the Nationalist Congress Party and Trinamul Congress and others to join “Congress Parivar” to save the country from the communal and anti-farmer forces.
He hoped all leaders who broke away from the Congress to form own parties for whatsoever reason will realise that they can stop the Sangh Parivar only by closing ranks to fight it unitedly.
He said the parties and leaders who have parted ways with the Congress particularly the NCP Sharad Pawar and TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to see the urgency of closing ranks. He drew parlllels between the Janata leaders, saying they had also split for the same reason, but now have come together under the leadership of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Earlier at a press conference, Digvijay also announced that Rahul will be back in action after two months of absence by making his presence at the farmers’ rally the Congress is organising at Ramlila Maidan here on April 19, a day before Parliament resumes second half of the budget session. Digvijay, who is the joint coordinator of the rally along with senior party leader A K Antony, said lakhs of farmers from across the country will be attending the massive gathering to be addressed by Sonia Gandhi and others.
When asked if Congress vice president will return from his sabbatical, he said : “Rahul Gandhiji will also address the rally.” Rahul had gone on leave, taking permission from his mother just before Parliament began its budget session on February 23.
