Kabul, April 3(IANS): At least seven people were killed on Friday when a vehicle ran over a roadside bomb in eastern Afghanistan’s Logar province detonating the explosive, an official source said.
A station wagon set off an improvised explosive device (IED) on a main road in Baraki Barak district at around midday, leaving seven people in the car dead, provincial government spokesman Din Mohammad Darwish told Xinhua news agency.
The victims were members of one family, Darwish said, adding that four children and a woman were among those killed.
The official blamed the Taliban insurgent group for the attack.
The Taliban has largely been using homemade IEDs to launch suicide attacks and roadside bombings against security forces but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
At least 3,700 civilians were killed and more than 6,800 others wounded in conflicts and Taliban-led attacks in 2014, according to official figures released by the UN mission in the country.
