Barcelona thrashed Elche 4-0, to win against them 9-0 on aggregate to easily set up a quarterfinal clash with Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Ray.
Barca manager Luis Enrique rested key players in the second clash with Elche following a 5-0 first-leg cushion and named six Barcelona B players in his squad, with Gerard Gumbau making a debut.
Jeremy Mathieu’s superb free-kick in the 21st minute helped Barca take the lead and Sergi Roberto smashed a brilliant second to double the lead, the BBC reported.
Barca took a 3-0 lead just before half-time, after Pedro netted from the penalty spot two minutes before the break.
Adriano’s injury-time header completed the scoring for Barca in the final minute of the game.
Barca would now face Atletico, who earlier knocked out rivals Real Madrid over two legs, beginning with home advantage at the Nou Camp on 21 January.
Atletico edged Barca to the La Liga title last season but were beaten 3-1 at the Nou Camp last weekend and Enrique’s side has now lost just once in 15 matches.
