NEW DELHI(TNN): BJP has made elaborate arrangements for PM Narendra Modi’s rally at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday. Hectic preparations were on till late on Friday night as the party was expecting a turnout of one lakh supporters at the event. The rally will mark the beginning of BJP’s campaign for the Delhi assembly polls.
One of the BJP flags will be mounted on a 50-ft high pole, said sources. “BJP has emerged as the main political force in the recent assembly elections (except J&K where it is the second largest party). This flag shows our growing strength,” said a senior member. The 10×15-ft flag will be installed near the stage. “We have put up cutouts of Modi-ji and Amit Shah-ji at the venue. We have also installed LED screens at different locations so that people can see Modi-ji,” said Ashish Sood, Delhi BJP general secretary, who is overseeing the preparations. Giant cutouts of Modi and Shah will be put up at the venue.
The party will felicitate newly-elected chief ministers of Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand as well as senior BJP members from Jammu & Kashmir. Though the timing is not yet confirmed, sources said, Modi would address the rally around 12.50pm. The PM is likely to make a few important announcements at the rally.
While saffron flags will dominate the entire Ramlila Maidan, AAP hoardings can be seen at the authorized sites only. Sources say AAP is trying to put up posters raising questions like what the Modi government has done for Delhi. “We will not do anything to their hoardings which have been put up at the authorized sites. They should also understand they it is our political rally and they should not create any problem. No illegal hoarding will be allowed near the venue,” said Praveen Shankar Kapoor, media convener of Delhi BJP.
The entire route to be taken by the PM and other VIPs will be decorated. “We will put up hoardings with congratulatory messages and banners with party symbol. All party workers have been asked to arrange 2,200 buses to get people to the venue. The civic agencies have been told to clean the area. The meeting will be attended by over 15,000 members of the auto and e-rickshaw union,” Kapoor added. Sources said the buses would be parked on the Ring Road.
The party will also carry out its membership drive at the venue. Nearly 50 volunteers will be engaged in the task.
