NEW DELHI(TNN): Almost a year after Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a five-star hotel in New Delhi, the police have registered a case of murder.
Saying that Sunanda Pushkar was poisoned and that the poison was either administered to her by mouth or injection, the police have relied on medical and forensic reports while registering a case under section 302 of the IPC.
A special team led by DCP (south) Prem Nath and additonal DCP (south) Kushwah has been formed to investigate the case. The police will go for a re-investigation in the case which was being probed under 174 CrPC, treating the death as unnatural.
Former Union minister Shashi Tharoor may be questioned by Delhi Police. A team of AIIMS doctors had submitted a fresh report to police on the mysterious death of Sunanda, maintaining that she died of poisoning.
Delhi Police on November 18 had dubbed speculations about any foreign angle in the mysterious death of Sunanda as a “work of fiction” .Sunanda was found dead in a 5-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, a day after her Twitter spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over an alleged affair with Tharoor. The probe into the case was handed over to the Crime Branch on January 23. However, the case was transferred back to the South District police two days later on January 25.
Delhi Police had recently begun the investigation once again from scratch and several people, including the staff of the five-star hotel, where Sunanda was found dead, and the personal staff of Tharoor, who was then a Union Minister, have been quizzed in recent days.
Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Shashi Tharoor, was found dead in a five-star hotel room on January 17, 2014 in the capital this year.
