No dearth of officers in next 10 years: Indian Army official

New Delhi(PTI): In a bid to overcome the shortage of officers in Army, a plan has been chalked out for recruitment drive and seats in the Academy were also being increased, a senior Army official said in Mathura on Tuesday.

“The seats in the Academy are being increased and a plan has been made for recruitment,” Lt Gen A B Shivane, GoC, 1 Strike Corps said. “With the speed, recruitment is going on and in next ten years there would be no dearth of officers in the Army,” he told reporters.

According to him, officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and jawans are working unitedly in such a way that dearth of officers is not being felt, he said. Recently Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had told Lok Sabha that there is 17% shortage of officers in armed forces and government has set a target of 10 years to fill all the vacancies.
