New Delhi(PTI): The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday sent a legal notice to BJP for levelling “uncorroborated and malicious” allegations over the issue of funding.

AAP sends legal notice to BJP over ‘malicious’ funding allegations

The notice, sent to South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay on behalf of AAP general secretary Pankaj Gupta, has asked the duo to respond within seven days, failing which a criminal defamation suit would be pursued against them.

“Due to lack of transparency, the common man is wondering whether donation is being received at the rate of Rs 20,000 per plate or the funds of NGOs, which belonged to AAP leaders, are being diverted,” Delhi BJP general secretary Bidhuri had said in a press conference early this month.

The BJP leader also asked AAP to reveal the names of all the persons who had attended and donated for the party in such programmes. Reacting strongly after the news conference, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had threatened to file a defamation suit.

“The conference that you held, it is clear that not only you intend to defame my client but also to illegally and mischievously deter various persons and organisations to fund and support my client and its leaders causing set back to my client in the electoral field,” the notice said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will take legal action against the Delhi BJP unit over allegations that it was receiving foreign funding, the party said on Saturday.

Senior party leader and AAP’s Delhi convener Ashutosh said that party’s funding was transparent in nature and that for the past few days rival parties had been making allegations over the funding. He also challenged the BJP to reveal its sources of funds.
