Bhopal, 25 Oct 2014(IndiaTomorrow): After passing out from a local engineering college, he was looking for job. But 22-year-old Drone Kumar Sinha wanted to become rich instantly and so this idea struck his mind. First he sent a threat letter in the name of SIMI to owner of the flat he lived in on rent for last three years in the city and demanded Rs 15 lakh, and then he made calls threatening to eliminate entire family of the owner, a government engineer, if he didn’t cough up the amount. Due to Dipawali, the Bhopal police took the ‘SIMI’ letter seriously and after hard investigation it was able to nab the culprit. He was produced before media today.
According to the Crime Branch of Bhopal Police, Drone Kumar Sinha, who is originally from Patna, sent an SMS to Mahesh Raghuvanshi, resident of Shivaji Nagar in Bhopal who is an executive engineer with Narmada Valley Development Authority on 20th Oct at 8:27 am asking him to read a letter put in gold flag cigarette box on bumper of his car at his house. About one hour later, Sinha called Raghuvanshi to check if he read the letter. He asked him to pay Rs15 lakh in 24 hours otherwise his entire family will be eliminated.
A press statement from the Crime Branch today carried a portion of the ‘SIMI man’ Sinha’s letter. “Allah, Raghuvanshi Ji, you are being informed that you have to pay Rs 15 lakh in next 24 hours. If you tried to become clever, it will be difficult for any member of your family to escape.
For four days, the Bhopal Crime Branch meticulously probed this case through the phone number from which Sinha had made calls and it was able to nab him. He was produced before media at the Crime Branch police station in Bhopal this morning.
“Due to Dipawali festival, the Crime Branch took the letter and call from ‘SIMI man’ very seriously and after hard work it was able to reach the culprit,” said the Police.
During interrogation, Sinha told the police that he came from Patna for engineering education in Bhopal. He completed the course from JNCT Engineering College in the city and was searching for job. He wanted to become rich instantly. He lived at the flat of the government engineer Mahesh Raghuvanshi. He knew his owner is a rich man and also a coward, so he will give the money if threatened and will not tell anyone. After sending letter and making threat call, he vacated Raghuvanshi’s flat and started living with a Muslim friend in Ayodhya Nagar locality of Bhopal.
“Police got suspicion about Sinha for vacating the flat of the complainant after making the threat call and started to have a vigil secretly,” said the police.
SIMI stands for Students Islamic Movement of India. It was banned by the central government in 2001 for its alleged terror activities. The ban still continues.
