Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who made her first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival this year…
Mumbai: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be making a high profile appearance at the Mumbai Film Festival on Tuesday. On Oct. 13 Variety reported that the global face of the Hindi film industry and “most beautiful woman in the world” will officiate the week-long festival.
The Mumbai Film Festival is going into its 16th year and wasn’t initially expected to be a success. It suffered from financial problems and Anupama Chopra resorted to leading a public crowdfunding campaign via social media to get the show running. Odd that a film festival expected to draw names like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Akshay Kumar, and Mrs. Bachchan herself would be struggling to even open, but c’est la vie.
The Mumbai Film Festival will open with “Serena,” starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence and close with Brad Pitt’s latest film, “Fury.” In between Chopra will sit down with Catherine Deneuve and Deepika Padukone. Deneuve and Bollywood item legend Helen will receive Lifetime Achievement awards.
Aishwarya’s own film career is about to restart after the actress took a four year hiatus from films. During that time she gave birth to a daughter, Aaradhya, and made a variety of public appearances for the corporate names she represents (including high profile appearances at Cannes for L’Oreal Paris and showroom openings throughout south India for Kalyan Jewelers).
Her comeback film “Jazbaa” will begin shooting in December and is set to either screen or be previewed at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Little is known about “Jazbaa” with the exception of the cast and the fact that the story is borrowed from a popular Korean film. Hopefully Aishwarya Rai herself will be open to sharing more details about the project during her appearance at the Mumbai Film Festival.
Apart from her upcoming film news about the star has been lacking. She looked radiant in family photos released on the occasion of Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday and during Karva Chauth celebrations over the weekend, but those small glimpses are all fans have had of her in recent weeks. Her time spent on behalf of her adopted city’s own celebration of international film will surely be cherished by her fans.
