Guwahati, 14 August-2014(Indilens Web Team): Dr. Buljit Buragohain has come from one of the most backward district of Assam named Dhemaji.He had passed HSLC from Dhemaji H.S. School and H.S. from Dhemaji College . He passed B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) from Jorhat Engineering College with first class, M.Tech. (Energy Technology) from Tezpur University with first class and finally was awarded Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) for his research work entitled “Thermodynamic Optimization of Biomass Gasification”.
He has been working as Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology since March 2012. Earlier he had worked as Assistant Project Engineer in a funded research project entitled “Design and development of a high performance biogas digester in the north eastern region of India” in the year 2005 at IIT, Guwahati.

Dr. Buljit Buragohain has been deeply involved with various activities related to development and upliftment of the Assamese society. Some of the associations, activities and recognitions of Dr. Buragohain are:

Executive coordinator for Jeevan Initiative (a voluntary association, registered as a nonprofit trust for celebration of life and its possibilities). He has been actively involved in its annual Kite Festival and Juice Festival organized in Guwahati .
In most of the online communities of Assamese people residing at various parts of the world, Dr. Buragohain has been coordinating and informing the positive developments of Assam on a regular basis since 2000.
Dr. Buragohain is acting as columnist for answering queries related to career in an Assamese monthly magazine “Bindu”.
Dr. Buragohain was one of the pioneers advocating the need for setting up of engineering college at Dhemaji, which was finally accepted by the government of Assam in 2010 and the foundation stone was laid in 2011.
Dr. Buragohain provides free career counseling sessions to the youth of Assam by answering to their queries and providing guidance over phone every Saturday from 6pm-9pm.
He is highly involved in popularization of typing of Assamese on computers and internet using software.
He is an avid writer with most of his articles and letters regarding matters related to Assamese society, culture and youth being published quite often in the leading newspapers and magazines of Assam.
He has been honoured as one of the “Special 10” (personality, organization, movie, etc. that has had impact on the society and masses) for the year 2011 by Jeevan magazine.
Dr. Buragohain been recognised by “Prantik” magazine as “Srestha Patra Lekhak” for the year 2011 for letters on various issues of the society.
Besides these social involvements, Dr. Buragohain has also been displaying high order of technological and scientific acumen through his project undertakings. He is an implementer of clean energy and rural technology through the various project works he has done. During his stint as Assistant Project Engineer at IIT Guwahati, he has worked on Biogas Digestor with the research being funded by MNES (Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources). Research for his Doctorate degree was on Biomass Gasification funded by MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy). Currently he is overseeing a project on Semi-automatic handloom sponsored by ASTEC (Assam Science Technology and Environment Council) as Project Investigator.
