20 July-2014, Gaza: Israel using banned weapons, claims Norwegian doctor Renowned Norwegian doctor Mads Gilbert on Tuesday accused Israel of using internationally proscribed weapons in its ongoing air offensive against the Gaza Strip.
“Israel is dropping Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME) munitions on Gaza,” Gilbert, who is helping to treat Palestinians injured by Israeli airstrikes, told Anadolu Agency. “DIME explosives cause deep lacerations, which I have found on the bodies of killed and injured Palestinians,” Gilbert said. He also said some injuries he had seen in Gaza had indicated that Israel was using white phosphorus. Israel was widely criticized for using white phosphorus against civilian targets during the 2008/09 “Cast Lead” operation, which left at least 1400 Palestinians dead and thousands injured.
