Kozhikode, 8 March, Sreeparvathy K.: About 135 sports persons are to be appointed in Kerala Police to strengthen the existing teams and forming new teams. Since the code of conduct is imposed, the official notification will be made only after the election. The new appointment is aimed to form new teams in swimming, handball, water polo and canoeing and to strengthen volleyball, football, athletics and basket ball teams in the state.
The Home Ministry have given the proposal based on the provision for selection of athletes in sports quota alternative to the appointment made by Public Service Commission (PSC). This helps to retain the athletes in the state and thus prevent the outflow of athletes to other states for jobs.
Kerala Police is facing shortage in the number of sports persons in volleyball, basketball and football due to injury and relocation.
