Kozhikode, 8 March, Sreeparvathy K.: A research conducted in the organ donation tendencies in Kerala proves that about 74% of the organ donors are women. The report states that most of the organ donors were mothers willing to risk their life for their children’s sake, 53% of the organ donors being mothers. On the other hand, the number of organ donors ready for donating to women was seen to be less.
The study also states that about 78.2% of the receivers were men. The study says only 25.8% of men were willing to donate organs for their close relatives. The research conducted by Assistant Registrar of MIMS hospital, Radha Malattiri states that women are forced into donation due to social and economical reasons. Most of the even do not get proper rest and medication after the surgery. The research was conducted among the organ donors and receivers in the Kidney transplantation. The study was published in the American Journal of Bio Ethics.
