Guwahati, 17 July-2014, CNN-IBN: The Assam Congress may be heading for a split. Rebel MLA Himant Biswas who is leading the faction against Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the Congress high command to look into their demands by the weekend.
There is a faction in the state Congress that is protesting against Gogoi’s leadership post the Lok Sabha elections debacle. The CM had even put in his papers but the party leadership in Delhi has not yet taken a stand on him.
The dissident anti-Gogoi camp led by Education and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with the support of 55 Ministers and MLA have openly demanded change in the CLP leadership. Rest of the 79 Congress MLAs and Ministers are stated to be Gogoi loyalists.
Gogoi had recently admitted that there were differences of opinion within the party over the demand for a change in the leadership.
