Thousands of Muslims agitate for 1% quota in Chennai

Chennai, January 30, Jasmine Ahmed: Members of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) converged in large numbers here and in Chennai on Tuesday for a demonstration, urging center to provided 10% reservation for Muslim in education and employment. The protesters wanted the state government to enhance quota for Muslim in Tamil Nadu from the existing 3.5% to 7%. In Coimbatore, around 4,000 members of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath converged on Dr. Nanjappa Road for the protest.

State Secretary R. Rahmathullah organizations, they wanted the central government to go the Ranganath Mishra committee’s recommendations or reservation for Muslim and demanded that it be pegged at 10% at the national level and 7% at the state level.

Mr. Rahamthullah said the state government should fulfill the promise Chief Minister Jayalalithaa made sometime ago that the reservation would be increased.
