Odisha, January 29, Abhijit Saha: Sudarshan Patnaik, the well-known Indian sand artist from Odisha, will receive Padma Shri. Hearing to this prestigious news, students of this artist on Tuesday decided to praise him in an exceptional manner. They decide to congratulate their teacher by dedicating a structure prepared by them with the sand art that they learnt from their teacher at the shoreline of Puri in Odisha. The structure that they prepared is 5 ft in height. 3 tons of sand is used to give shape to the overall structure. They also used some coloured sand to add radiance to the structure. This structure is a dedication from his students to Sudarshan Patnaik who will be honoured with Padma Shri this year.
Sudarshan Patnaik said that this is a huge honour for him and that he cannot express his feelings with words. He also said that as this sand art has got recognition in our country India, more people and other younger artists will get inspiration from this recognition and he is hopeful that people will get interest to learn more about this form of art.
Patnaik wishes to create awareness and enthusiasm amongst the people and make this art popular and professional art among the people by travelling different places and demonstrating and teaching this art form.
His appreciation is famous not only in India but throughout the world. He has won several national and international awards. Till now Sudarshan has represented India through this sand art in 50 International championships and festivals. He has also won 27 such championships for India alone. He has also won people choice award at Berlin for five times and that is also a record. Sudarshan is the first sand artist from India to be honoured Padma Shri by Govt of India.
