New Delhi, 1 July-2014, Zee Media Bureau: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal in a sexual assault case.
The SC has, however, put stringent conditions for Tejpal’s release on bail, saying violation of any one condition would lead to cancellation of bail.
The court has further asked Goa court to complete the trial expeditiously, preferably within eight months from today.
Tejpal was arrested in Goa after a woman colleague accused him of sexually assaulting her in a hotel there in November last year.
Tejpal had first sought bail to perform the rituals following his mother’s death. He later kept on seeking extension of bail on one pretext or the other.
On May 19, the apex court granted Tejpal three weeks’ interim bail so that he could carry out the last rites and other rituals of his mother.
This was later extended till June 27 as more rituals were to be completed.
Tejpal has been charged with rape, sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of a woman.
