EFL Act to be amended: Oommen Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram, 5 March, Sreeparvathy K.: The cabinet meeting decided to amend the EFL act, announced Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The government also decided to return the land taken as per the EFL Act. The government would give compensation even if the property is lease land.


“The land taken by the Government up to 2 hectares will be given back to its owners. If the land taken is in the area essential for forest conservation, proper compensation will be given. If the land taken is up to15 acre, then the 2 hectares land will be given back to the owners or compensation will be provided,” announced Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister also said that land acquired from the tribals will be returned without any conditions.  The land acquisitions from now on under EFL Act will need the permission of the government, he added. The government decided to amend the EFL Act 2000, including these changes.
