Patna, 29 June-2014, TNN: CM Jitan Ram Manjhi on Saturday disagreed with Union home minister Rajnath Singh that the problem of Naxalism could be solved through gun. Instead, it could be controlled with the all-round development and his predecessor Nitish Kumar took the lead through various development works which helped minimize the menace.
“We can differ with the Maoists’ ideology. But we should find out the reason why people turn to Naxalism. If the poor are deprived financially, socially and educationally, they will get frustrated,” Manjhi said. Meeting top civil and police officials in Delhi on Friday, Rajnath had ruled out talks with Maoists while saying that security forces would give a “befitting reply” if they were attacked and announced that the Centre would fully fund the formation of elite commando forces in states to deal with the menace.
“Theoretically, I disagree with what the home minister has said. Naxalism cannot be solved with the help of gun. The only solution lies in all-round development of society,” Manjhi said. “Now the situation in the state has changed so much that our Maoist brothers find it hard to search new recruits. Young men don’t want to join them. Development weaned them away from Naxalism,” he claimed.
“Our intention is to bring so much development in Bihar that problems like Naxalism automatically get solved. If we take development to the huts of the poor, it will definitely end Naxalism,” Manjhi exhorted.
Regarding RJD support to his government, Manjhi said, “An exercise is afoot for a non-BJP alliance not only in Bihar but at national level. When the RJD support is required for mobilization against the BJP, we will seek their help and work with all other parties for the goal,” said Manjhi.
