New Delhi, 22 June-2014, IndiaToday: A 24-year-old journalist with a leading Hindi news channel allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in front of the entrance gate of her office in Noida. The victim has been admitted at Noida’s Kailash Hospital and her condition is stated to be out of danger.
Noida Police recorded the victim’s statement on Sunday evening and registered a case under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of IPC against three employees of the channel.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday morning when she was stopped from entering the office by a security guard. “The victim, in her complaint, told the police that she was allegedly harassed with regard to her employment at the channel by the accused, which prompted her to take her own life,” a senior police officer said. She wrote a suicide note on Facebook in which she mentioned three of her seniors, including two women. She has blamed them for mental harassment, conspiring against her and betrayal.
“The victim has claimed before the police that after a dispute with some people in her office, she sent some text messages through her cellphone to one of the staff members, informing him that she is resigning from the channel. However, the text message was passed on by him to the HR department which took it to be her formal resignation and converted it to a hard copy, thereby removing her from the channel,” the victim said, adding how could the HR department terminate her employment on the basis of a text message.
Gautam Buddh Nagar SSP Preetinder Singh said the police have also received a letter from the HR department of the channel highlighting the same sequence of events.
