Bhubaneswar, 18 June-2014, TNN: Plans are afoot to illuminate all areas of the capital city for which 10,000 new street lights will be installed.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will implement the street light project II to cover 30% areas in the city, which are yet to be lit up. “We are yet decide the modalities. The street lights will either be installed in public-private partnership (PPP) mode or through Odisha Urban Infrastructure Development Fund, a trust,” said PPP cell in-charge Srimanta Mishra.
Official sources said energy-efficient LED lights will be put up. “The International Financial Corporation (IFC), which is providing technical assistance for installing energy-efficient lights in place of the existing traditional ones, will be roped in to chalk out a plan,” said Mishra. He said there will be a central control room to monitor functioning of the street lights.
“There will be timers on street light poles for automatic switching off of the lights after six in the morning. The lights will get dimmer after 10 pm,” said a BMC official. On a trial basis, 20 such LED lights were installed in February, he added.
