This curriculum is being tested in 7 countries around the world in 3 continents. However, the central testing base has been setup in Chennai and tie ups have been made with a number of schools in the city. At the end of the testing, a large scale launch will be initiated through our partners: UNESCO, BRAC Uganda, Teach For India, Teachers Without Borders and a number of state governments.

Professor Levine – earlier on president Bill CLinton’s board of economic advisors, and currently a professor at UC Berkeley and a visiting faculty at MIT and Harvard – will be in India to head the project.

About this Internship: Each intern will be paired with a research apprentice from Professor Levine’s team in UC Berkeley, who will work in Chennai for the duration of the project. Together they will be assigned to one of our partner schools, where they will have to conduct classes based on Professor Levine’s hygiene education curriculum. The curriculum aims to provide a holistic education on the basics of hygiene, through fun, interactive mediums such as games, stories and activities. The intern and his/her partner from America will have to gather feedback from the classes, and frame visit reports outlining whether or not the children like the material taught, and more importantly how the material can be bettered/tweaked to cater to India tastes and need.

They will also have to participate in brainstorming sessions with Professor Levine and the team in Chennai.

Who can apply: Anybody with good communication skills (English or/and Tamil). A sound ability to critically analyze the material will be appreciated.

Location: Chennai

Duration: 1 month

Number of Internships: 5

Stipend: Performance Based. Interns who perform exceedingly well will be provided certificates from UC Berkeley and letters of recommendation from Professor David Levine. At the end of it all, the best performers could be offered roles in the project, and an opportunity to join the core group, that works on this project from California.
