Bhubaneswar, 5 June-2014, Priyabrata Nayak: Braving the police raids flesh trade continues to be unabated in the city. Commissionerate police on Wednesday stormed into a rented house in Laxmi Sagar area and apprehended six accused on allegation of prostitution. Police also rescued six girls, mostly hailing from West Bengal during the raid.
This was the third raid within a week at different locations under Laxmi Sagar police limit, in which 13 accused were arrested and 21 girls rescued.
According to police sources acting on a tip off a special team led by local ACP raided on a rented house at Chintamaniswar Colony under Laxmi Sagar police station this evening. The accused includes 74-year-old landlord and brothers’ duo that were allegedly running the flesh trade in that rented house. The accused were identified as Hiralal Shah (74), Panchanan Padhi, Shiva Prashad Padhi, Safik Seikh, Dinesh Kumar and Saroj Patra.
“Eleven months back Padhi brothers took the house from Shah on rent and were residing with their family. But weeks after their stay Padhi brothers started flesh trade in that house in connivance with Shah,” said a police officer.
Sources said Dinesh and Safik were working as pimps for Padhi and were procuring girls from West Bengal. They were also arranging customers for this business. Today Saroj went there as a customer. All of the accused would be produced before the court on charges of Immoral Trafficking Act. The rescued girls have been lodged at a short stay home.
Satya Narayana Panda, a local said both man and women were coming to this house regularly. We have repeatedly beseeched the local police to act on this flesh trade but they turned deaf ear to it.
“Following the multiple raids in this region within a week we had shout help of ACP and urged him to stop this dirty business in our locality. Police should continue the raids at each suspected parlours and houses otherwise it won’t be curbed,” said Sumita Chattopadhaya, another resident.
Last Thursday police raided on three different massage parlours in Cuttack-Road under Laxmi Sagar police station and arrested four costomers along with rescuing 11 girls. Next day police managed to arrest two owners of these parlours who had gave a slip to the police during the raids. Later on Saturday police also raided at a rented house under the same police limit and arrested a broker who was running a sex racket there. Four girls were rescued from that house.
